Berthoud, CO -- Bring your instrument and your dancing shoes to the sixth annual Rocky Mountain Old Time Music Festival to be held on July 9 to July 12, at Parrish Ranch near Berthoud, Colorado. The festival showcases traditional forms of fiddle and banjo music with performances by the nation’s best old time groups, workshops for musicians of all levels, and square dances for the entire family.
No prior musical experience is required to attend this outdoor music festival, and there will be activities for all ages! This year’s lineup includes the Roan Mountain Hilltoppers (Bill and Janice Birchfield, Cody Jackson, and Terry Tester), Walt Koken and Clare Milliner, and Dugout Canoe (Geoff Sietz, Marc Rennard, David Landreth, Andy Gribble); dance callers Larry Edelman, Chris Kermiet, and T. Claw; and additional instructors Harrison Topp, David Cahn, and the Mullany Family Band (Marjorie, Jim, Maddy, and Riley).
Parrish Ranch is nestled along the Little Thompson River and provides the perfect setting for an oldtime music festival. Amenities include onsite camping, RV hookups, food venues and others.
Festival gates open Thursday, July 9 at noon. Activities start with a potluck dinner and pie contest followed by stage performances, and an evening square dance. Friday morning begins with workshops followed by late afternoon performances and an evening dance.
Saturday starts with a ranch style breakfast and continues with workshops, performances, and an evening dance. Sunday includes a ranch breakfast and campground jamming until gates close at 5 pm. Oldtime music is fiddle and banjo music that grew organically from rural traditions in places like Southern Appalachia and the Ozarks. It traveled with settlers who came west, and subsequently took root in various mining camps and settlements throughout Colorado, Wyoming, and the mountain west.
